Look du Jour: Blair Waldorf

Gossip Girl has been one of the greatest influences since its premier last year, both on the teens who watch the TV show religiously as well as the billion dollar fashion industry. The show’s characters have become fashion icons, girls looking to Blair Waldorf and Serena Vanderwoodsen as inspiration. The actresses behind the two queen bees, however, are not just fashion mavens on screen, but off screen as well.

Leighton Meester and Blair Waldorf may have contrasting personalities, but their sense of style is certainly fashionable and impeccable: everything the actress wears is desired, from hair accessories to girly tops and designer dresses. Off TV, Leighton channels Blair’s style, exuding simple luxury with feminine sophistication – a style that is sure to make her a lasting fashion icon.

Her essentials onscreen? Blair’s basic wardrobe consists of a myriad of headbands, ranging from basic and patent to satin and ornamented with Swarovski crystals and bows. Headbands are the perfect accessory for any outfit to achieve that polished and up-scale look we all try to copy; after all, copying is the highest form of flattery, no? Trench coats with a pop of color (pastel yellow seems to be a favorite on the show) give a classic item a playful twist. Stockings, lace-y knee highs, and opaque tights in an assortment of bold colors (as well as the basics of black and white) add an uptown sophistication to a dress or skirt. A contrast between the color of the tights and shoe give a pop of color; Blair is seen many a time wearing white flats with a colored pair of tights, whether it be navy, black, or lipstick red. The final touch? A great bag.

About Kim Yang

I love fashion; I guess you could call it a passion of mine, one that started when I was a wee toddler, putting together outfits and putting on little runway shows for my camera-happy mother. And it was then when fashion grew on me, first starting as a girlish passion for wearing pretty little things and then evolving into much more. Perhaps claiming fashion to be a passion - or obsession - is a bit cliche on my part, since a majority of girls dream of a career in fashion. But fashion isn't simply a matter of looking sophisticated and knowing the trends; for me, it is a form of history and art - living history, if you will - that adapts and reflects what is going on in the now. That is the beauty of fashion: the very thing the draws me into it.

While Blair Waldorf’s fashion is fantastic and unique - I could never pull it off :) However, Leighton Meester’s red carpet style is also enviable!
